300tdi ES seats and windows

Are there common faults with the rear windows on 300TDi and electric front seats?
I have just bought new (for me) 1996 ES spec disco and the back windows don't work and the front passenger electric seat only reclines backwards more. It won't come forwards or slide back or forwards. I sold my last same specced disco to a mate and now his is showing the same two faults.
I haven't checked the switches or fuses...yet.

Don't know about common faults, but most of the common seat related faults are due to the multifunction switch and with the rear windows do you have the override switch activated

No, i'm not sure which is on or off with the overide switch. So i have tried it in AND out. The same with my old ES too. It makes no difference. I wondered if there was a common fault as both of these discos have it and i have been looking on ebay for another and many have the same problem.
I did check the fuse on my old ES, and also continuity through the switches in the doors. Both were ok.

If there is a problem then I better see if my windows work, I never open them.
