My son (21years) is taking his motorcycle test this month and is looking for a modern motorcycle say 650cc suzi, yam, honda etc at under £1,000.00.

To keep this request in context I could part exchange a capstan winch (fully reconditioned and v pretty) or a SWB Series II diesel with some cash for me etc, or 2.25 diesel engine, or SIII gearbox.

Just seen a very pretty stage 1!!!:yay:

Although I haven't got a bike for sale....

What's your Series II diesel like? Any pictures and what sort of price?

Hi Toad,

The engine is spoken for jonboy has called me today and I have agreed it should go into his care for a few notes.

Keep asking as he did and you will probably get one soon.

Hi Landygirl,

I hear tell they're worth some £200.00, so what would it be worth to you???

Hi Ian

My series II is breaking my back, hurting my head, and I have decided its probably time someone else had a go.

Quite a nice little thing really but I have opened up the bell housing to examine the clutch, which is perfect, (so why the chunchy gears I ask???). Anyway the vehicle is too small.

I used to have a 4.2 xj6 so I feel I should have another 109 as I am needing the extra space.

I'll get you some pictures but here are the details,

1960 SWB (early SII as said paddocks), originally RAF 2.25 petrol, tax exempt, runs out Jan 05, MOT runs out Feb 05, standing on good 750x16 Michelins, all gears work, freewheeling hubs, they work too, four foldup seats in the back, which is a hardtop with no side windows (van!!). I replaced the three front seats with two proper SII seats and seatbacks from Paddocks. The bases are loose, makes for an interesting drive!!

Non original dash, I rewired using autosparks £150.00 approx, new later type sidelights and indicators on front, but original flat glass on back. Series III diesel engine fitted last October, bit smokey, but aren't they all??

Looking for £1250.00 from you forum guys more for outsiders

In god we trust, all others cash ( I don't know whose quote I've pinched but it says everything).

Look forward to seeing the pictures....

Looking for tax exempt diesel Landy (SWB) for when my 90" comes off the road in a few months for a rebuild.

Where abouts (roughly) are you in Brum?

Hi Ian

I'm in Acocks Green Birmingham not far from where the Landrover engine plant used to be, and the SWB is just off the Lode Lane, five minutes from where it was built 44 years ago.

I have to go round to the house tomorrow and whilst there will take some pictures.

What ya doing to your truck Ian? Didn't look like it needed a rebuild! You ought to see the state of mine - like a giant wheel barrow at the moment! :p

Cheers Dan,
Quite often over that way, as my Girlfriends relatives live quite near.

Kyzer,

In reality I suppose my Landy is quite acceptable, but I'm just being picky.

Current plan.....

New galvanised Chassis, new (or recon) 300 TDi and R380 - with various tweaks, modified suspension....

Have already got:

late TD5 Defender spec front axle,
Disco rear axle (about to be rebuilt)
As new pair front doors
All new lights (NAS spec)
Plus quite a few other bits,

Just waiting for my unit to be finished (still being built) then the fun can start.... as can my loan!!!!
Hopefully, by selling my 200 Tdi engine and box, some costs will be recovered!

BIG pictures! A Mod may wanna resize those!

Have you got all the bits to link the winch upto the front PTO? What do the letters stand for? Guessing the F may be for Fairey?

Sorry about the BIG pictures I'm not sure how to resize them.

The Capstan just bolts on the front behind the bumper and you put a shear pin through the shaft, pull the lever to engage then start the engine. You then have a roundabout, keep clear!!! it wont stop.:behead:

Fixed the clutch, without taking the seat bases out!!!, it says you can do this in the manual, and indeed you can, but wear gloves, or you'll cut your hand to pieces. I wore welding gauntlets.

Not sold any landrovers or bits,

Found a bike, at where my son (the one who was looking for one) works. Hopefully we will see it, test ride it, buy it and live happily ever after. So much for the World Wide Web!!!

Prayer to the landy church whilst working on the clutch (keyhole surgery), did the trick.

Should now be holding up the speeding traffic again on lode lane, 0 - 40 in 18 seconds !!!, even the buses overtake.
