Hi everyone....:bigwave:
Question for you .
I have a Freelander 2.5 V6i ES petrol Auto 2003 model.
On looking through my fsh I can see no mention of the cambelt being done, it now has 55K on the clock, where can i find out when it was last done:confused:
It was last serviced at 48K but doesnt go into detail:o
Appreciate any help you can give..

In Rave I got this info: 72k Replace Camshaft drive belt
So ... on your second services from 48k you have to change camshaft belt ...

There are 3 cam belts on a v6, but you need someone with the timing set to fit them. The 2 at the back of the heads need stretching to fit.

Right em... when would my second services need doing?
It now has 55K on it
I only do around 2K a year miles , only use it around 3 days a week for short runs.
Now the biggie question  what would it cost to get this work done:rolleyes:

If you do a low amount of miles then I would say changing the timing belt every 4yrs would be sensible. But it one of those piece of mind things!

Thanks Mr Rob for that, but excuse my ignorance on Landys .
How do I know if it ever has had a cambelt change if it doesnt say in service history and you say every 4 years if mileage is low so when should that be? 2009 or em...Im not very good at this :)
Its a 2003 model , not sure when cambelt done if ever:confused:

If a cambelt fails on most overhead camshaft engines, it results in what is called "Catastophic failure" the valves contact the pistons and bend. The heads need to come off, so not only the cost of the belts and replacing them, the cost of stripping the heads and replacing valves at about £11 each ( X 24) and the gasket and head bolts.
The price to do the belts is about £300 ( the timing kit is very expensive), if the belts fail, then it's more the £1200 mark.
The time limit as well as mileage limit is to allow for the degredation of the belts and possible condensation getting into the tensioner and idler bearings.
When an engine is left standing for a long time, the belts can take the shape of a pulley or sprocket and snap when you try to start the engine, that is why it is better to turn an engine over by hand first in case it does fail.

Ladycool ...
If you are not sure if belts were changed then it is better to change them now ...
Especial if you are not the first owner ...
As Templar sad if belts fails then expenses are much higher ...
I have a V6 Freelander and have very bad experience because maintenance was not right and no option for any guaranty or complain ...
My engine went by by and cost-ed me 3000+ GBP to buy a new engine and to put it in ...
So if I may advise you then my advice to you is to change belts on your next service ...

Thanks Lovrod and everyone for being so helpful :sunshine:
Just got word back from the dealer who has always serviced the freelander he says "
Hi , Your quite right we have serviced your vehicle and it would be due a 60,000 mile or 5 year service soon. The cambelt is changed at 72,000 miles or 6 years and is quite labour intensive as it adds 4.50 hours labour to the service (making a total of 7.50 hours). It may be something to bear in mind although it shouldn't affect your vehicle until next year. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
The cost of the 60,000 mile service is £290 inc VAT and if you contact our reception team or reply by e-mail we can arrange to book your vehicle in for this if you wish.

So according to this gentleman he says the cambelt should be okay until 2009, guess this all seems correct...
