hi there whats the pros and cons on having the disco 4.0 v8 gas converted?
there's no cons apart from the couple of k it will cost you to get a proper system done. and how long it takes you to get your money back on cost savings
the thing to bear in mind is that though gas is about half the cost of petrol per gallon, you get less miles per gallon on it, typical about 25 % down
so instead of 17 to the gallon youl get about 13 miles
plus is doesn't seem to put any great value on the selling price

I love my 4.0 V8 far more refined than the oil burner but I regret having the LPG system fitted.
That reduction on fuel consumption affects my car on petrol as well :(. Other drawbacks include the short range between fillups, I have a 80 litre tank and get around 145 miles before it trips back onto petrol, 160 miles on a run.
You need to plan your fuel stops, especially when travelling in an area you do not know. I service and repair my own car but know nothing about the LPG kit so the car needs to go back to the supplying fitter for the LPG system to be serviced. Also tthe car needs to use petrol for starting and occasional use so you are not completely saving on that cost. I will shortly moving to a Hebridean Isle with no LPG available so the Disco will be relegated to second fiddle to a wee runabout and only get used for heavy lugging etc.
I agree the conversion is expensive and you will not recoup this on resale. Do the maths, think about installation and servicing costs against the time you intend keeping the car and the kind of mileage you intend covering. Is it still worth doing?
