Hi, Thinking of purchasing a 2003 Disco TD5 ES, lovely condition inside and all gizmos seem to work but dipstick showed no oil and coolant level was not showing at all in expansion tank! Oil leak underneath seemed to be at the back of the engine. Do TD5's have similar crankshaft oil seal probs as earlier tdi's? No smoke or steam on startup and seemed to idle fine.

Dont know if it helps but my one doesn,t use oil or coolant - never needs topped up between services and checked very regularly - I,d be worried about the one your looking at - either not serviced or PROBLEMS - I,d walk away because there are plenty good ones out there

Thanks I will be prepared to walk away, just seems strange as the oil on the cloth when I wiped the dipstick was realy clean and everything else said well looked after, some hoses and aircon parts looked new, engine bay (top) is spotless. Maybe the dealer steam cleaned it!
Going to test drive on thursday. We'll see!

Ask loads of questions and see the service record - it can be easy to be dazzled by the shine ! ;)

Thanks for the welcome, Had Landrovers for ages, drove them in the TA, never paid more than £3000, Dearest repair was a collapsed wheel bearing on my 1987 ex-MOD 110 cost £180. The thought of paying £8k now I need a family vehicle is a bit daunting!

Welcome to the best forum on the net.
There are plenty of nice high spec Disco 11's around - any doubts (and I think you have doubts - hence your post), walk away - look at as many as you can.
Service history is vital, main dealer or specialist .......... not a generalist.
Remember the sticker price is a guide ...... squeeze them 'till they squeak!!
Best of luck with your search
