I have just bought a 1995 Discovery V8 LPG and not having had one before not sure what they are like. I've had a 95 TDI before and I tow a caravan and found it to be a great tow car.... a little slow to get going but sure footed all the way.

I'm a bit dubious about going from a Diesel...your thoughts would be most welcome!

Pennine, Your gonna love it mate NO QUESTION I went from a 200 series to a 300 series V8 & never looked back.
First thing to do is get under it & take out the middle silencer box then it'll sound like a "Proper" V8 all burbley & Nice!!!!

Second don't ever fill her up with LPG from places like Morrisons or LPG garages their far too expensive, find yer local LPG supplier in Holmfirth ( the guy that supplies LPG to the farms & the like for their Central Heating Boilers) they HAVE TO ( By law) supply LPG to "Others" if requested to do so, you'll find they are around about 4 to 5 pence per litre cheaper that Morrisons ect

Around here ( Blackpool) Morrisons are currently 49p per litre but Total Gas supplies ( on my local industrial estate) are only 42p per litre.

I have a 105 litre tank in my boot ( Allowing for expansion, I can get about 100 litres in for £42) that'll get me about 300 miles, depending on how hard I drive & about 245 towing my caravan.

The only down side of having LPG is having to keep yer thumb on that damn button on the filling pump, mine goes numb after 2 minutes!!!!!

Mines set up to start on LPG yours may not be ( Start on Petrol & then auto switch over) always keep 1/4 of a tank of petrol in there & if your going somewhere new check on the internet where the local LPG garages are ( Just in case it's farther than you thought it was to your destination)

and always remember if the temperature outside is below 5 degrees yer LPG won't kick in until the temp within the engine rises above that ( Sometimes LPG is a bitch like that especially if your tank/s are outside underslung ect)

if you need any info give us a PM & i'll do my best to help out.

Keith,

Thanks for that, very helpful post. I have just picked it up and it sounds lovely. I had to put some gas in on my way back....that was an experience! No instructions on the pump, I couldn't seem to get it to work, so I went in to the kiosk and the 'kid' behind the counter said 'I'm not allowed to help you'...........he did go on to say you keep the button pressed in!

It's a bit 'sheddy' inside so I've got my work cut out gettting it spick and span. Mine starts in petrol btw. The tank is in the boot, though there are two 'torpedo' ones underneath from its police days apparantly! I'm not sure why another one was put in in the boot, but I'll try to find out!

Hi Phil,

The other tank is probably to increase it's range. You probs won't know this but has it sequencial LPG or just the "Old Style" Ring in the air intake??

being a 1995 it probs the latter my evaporator ( The big round thing with the water hoses connected to it) right in front of my air intake so I've got very little room for fresh air into the air filter
(It sucks hot air from the engine at the moment...... I'll probs put a snorkel on it If I ever get the money!!)

heres a pic of mine I put 265 tyres on it instead of the usual 235's makes it look abit more "Threatening" when you roll up behind someone at the traffic lights

with regards to getting yer LPG cheaper try AVG Stanley Rd Bradford I've filled up there a couple of times last time it was 43P / litre compared to 51p at morrisons in Bradford

I bought meself one of these ......DEAD USEFUL!!!! http://www.go-autogas.com/

Anyway, like I said Any help you need give us a shout

All the best

Keith
