I want to run Tracks4Africa (http://www.tracks4africa.com/) on a laptop and am looking for a USB GPS that will work with Garmin's Mapsource.

Garmin is the major player in Africa. Something like 90% of GPS in Africa are Garmin.
T4A is the main map suite used by overlanders.

I have a Garmin GPS and have been using T4A for years now.

I now want to remove the GPS from the equation, replace it with a USB receiver that works with Mapsource and do the GPS stuff on the laptop.

Not sure Mapsource will run with anything other than a Garmin GPS unit. Garmin do (or did) supply receivers only though.

My experience of Flash card GPS and receiver only things is that they are really slow even with the latest chipsets in them (always at least 50m from where you are when moving in a vehicle). I gave up and still link the GPS unit to the laptop or Q1 which always shows real time position whatever speed you're moving at.
