200 tdi manual
Done some searching, but cannot find anything 100% relevent. I seem to have gearbox to xfer box oil migration. Eveyone mentions Xfer box oil seal, but no mention of gearbox output shaft oilseal. It's got to escape before it can get in.
Ok.... "simple", haha, job replacing xfer box input oil seal, but how do you replace the gearbox output shaft oil seal? Is it as straightforward and can it be done in situ while xfer box out?
Thanks in advance.

There's a gearbox and transfer box seal, so 2 facing each other. Both have failed if gearbox oil is getting into the transfer case. To remove the gearbox seal - drill a small hole in the face of the seal, screw a self-tapper in, then yank the seal out with pliers/mole grips/similar. The transfer box seal will just pop out (no seat for it). When you come to put the transfer box back on - put a continual bead of RTV sealant on one of the mating faces, then bolt it all up. Be careful when refitting the transfer box - the gearbox input shaft can push the transfer case seal inside it.

dont know if this helps

put transfer box in neutral
start engine
place gearbox in 4th
hold revs at 2000rpm

check join between the boxes and look for leaks
got this procedure from the rave cd, so should be right

last time i drained transfer box it poured out the filler plug with some pressure which was a laugh.
