Oil can get blown all along the underneath during driving so try and identify exactly where the leak is from by checking the levels in both boxes. What happens to the noise when you dip the clutch?

The tinny rattling noise could be a loose heat shield, there is one above the centre box of the exhaust.

Hi Spudd, couple of little tips for you:

1. If you plan to do oil changes regularly, buy one of these difflock sump plugs, makes the whole job so much easier/cleaner

http://shop.difflock.com/discovery-drainplug-p-41.html

I know it's £20 plus another £10 for the pipe, but once you've used one you'll never be without it !!

2. Re trans box and axles - EP75w-90 oil. Each axle needs 1.7ltrs and the transbox needs 2.3ltrs so 6 litres in all.
ALWAYS ensure that you can open the fill plug BEFORE emptying out the old oil.
You'll need a pump or similar to get the new oil in.

Cheers
Dave

The swaying might be because you're not used to the handling feel of a Disco, or, more likely, because there are one or more rubber suspension bushes worn out.

Trying to identify noise -
Does this happen at certain revs when stationary? - or in all gears when moving. Does it ocour at all speeds - even with engine switched off and rolling?

Sure you have oil in all boxes and diffs ?

i only notice when standing next to it ticking over.not to sure about oil in boxes will check tomorrow.they are just annoying little things.guess i was spoilt with a newer motor but being self employed in the building trade i had to sell and get some extra cash.

if theres no heat difflector plate loose and you cant see anything obvious rattling i would drain the box and transfer box and refil with fresh oils, you can just about sqeeze the oils in if you use a 1 litre fill up bottle and keep filling it up...like big lad says ensure you can get the refil plug out before you drain it..an half inch socket drive fits if i remember right....youll see if theres any debris on the sump plugs, but sounds to me as if the transfer box oil seal may have leaked and run dry, i have found they tend to rattle when this happens...keep us posted
