Its my first post so thought it wise to introduce myself. I'm Chris, currently living in Barrow upon Soar, but shortly to emmigrate to New Zealand. My wife and I are trading in the go-get-em lifestyle, to allow us to start a family and for me to undertake a new line in work. I'm going from a poorly paid, overlooked, largely unrecognised bank worker to a dog handler in search and rescue. Im 32, Lindsay is 29 and a big pocket full of dream living.

We've been looking at the idea of getting a second hand 4x4 when we arrive, and I've always had a thing for landie's since my aunt and uncle had a 110 when I was kid.

However, I know that whilst my relatives had good times, they had equally bad times with the reliability of the car.

So now im torn. The missus wants some flat bed truck type hilux and I want a defender.

I've looked on the NZ equivalent of ebay (trademe.co.nz) and have done some searches and there seems to be a fair number of 2nd hand vehicles in our price range, but I dont know which specific models I should go for, and which I should avoid.

I had popped into the local land rover garage and asked them this very same question, and they effectively said, go for the newest tdv6 you can find. Unlucky when most of these are out of my price range.

So really, thats me in a nutshell. If you can help me with the above, I'd be very grateful.

Welcome to the forums :)

I find the Hilux really uncomfortable after a short while of driving. (So its lucky I bought a Defender  ).

Good luck with everything. (Not jealous much face) :)

Thanks for the welcome.
:D

The decision to move has been in the planning since 2006, and we've only really had the resources to kick it off in 2008. Saving money during this economic debacle has been a real challenge..resulting in 2 full time jobs (bank worker and physio) and running a business (dog training/behaviour) to make ends meet.
