Welcome to the forums :)

Portal axles are a very good way of lifting the vehicle and providing a final gear reduction.

Disadvantages or problems that you may find include

a) Matching the final gear ratio to the existing gearing on all potential subject vehicles.

b) Matching fixing points (radius arms/link arms) to all potential subject vehicles.

c) Matching suspension fixing points to etc etc.

d) Matching steering component fixing points

e) Matching braking capabilities

I would think if you are at the point of researching a manufacturer then you have probably got round these problems already.

Let us know how you get on with it. :)

 Hello and welcome :D (clever ai'nt he)

Ya sarcy sod :D (I was only trying to help :))

I've only driven one type of portal axle vehicle, Pinzgauers, it's abilities off road were nothing short of awesome and totally outclass a Defender. The mechanical engineering and design of the vehicle is "differently" brilliant as well.
