View Full Version : Head scratcher
Hears one no doubt someone has had... Disco 1 300tdi M reg auto, periodicly fails to start for no reason only thing we have noticed that it mainly happens if it's facing slightly downhill..... so far opening the bleed screw on the filter housing and giving it a few pumps has cured it, however it happened to me and my mate the other day no tools at hand so we put it in neutrol and rolled it down to a level bit of ground and it started fine, the fuel filter has been replaced as we thought this was a good place to start it didn't cure it ????????????????????????

Sounds as though the fuel is running back to the tank out of the pump and filter, happens when the vane pump in the injection pump gets worn, or if you have a small air leak up around the filter or pump.
I have fitted a non-return valve in the line FROM the tank before now, that is a short-term cure, but better try and find out what it is before it gets worse.

I would check the condition of the two pipe elbows coming off the fuel tank sender for corrosion. They corrode and perforate allowing air to leak in and fuel to leak out. Access through plate at rear of boot floor below carpet.
Also check condition of fuel sedimentor, if its wet with diesel the body has perforated, replace or do away with. Might be worth cleaning it out while your at it.
Also check injector spill pipes (rubber) they split/rot and let in air. Just replace.
