My 2001 TD5 has developed well defined misfire symptoms. First run of the day no problems no matter how long the run 10mins or 3.5 hrs. Once stopped , cooled down, and restarted a misfire occurs around 2000rpm and above and the car is very sluggish. Further restarts during the day produce the misfire. Leave overnight and again no problems.
The injector wiring loom has been renewed, the loom to the ECU and the ECU have been cleaned of oil. No.5 injector has been renewed. The exhaust wastegate is free & operating, but still the problem exists. The fact that the car can run perfectly for 3.5hrs seems to indicate that most systems are working ok.
Any help with a possible solution which addresses the symptoms would be very much appreciated .

One of the problems with 'fly-by-wire' diesels, is that you cannot just look at the injection side, you also have to look at the electronics as well.
From your description, it is not easy to formulate a failure mode for the problem, but as a start, why was No5 injector changed? Has that injector been removed and the sealing washer checked?
Next thing would be to check for a bit of metal swarf laying across one of the engine motion sensors, crankshaft or camshaft position etc.
It sounds possibly electronic rather than injection, but it is all bound together nowadays which makes diagnostics more difficult.

Contact issues between the ECU and the multiplug? The multiplugs have a rubber seal on them where they fit into the ECU socket, these can make the plug a tight fit. Put some silicone grease on the seals to help them slide home easier. Make sore the plugs are right in.
I have heard of that to cause the problem before.

Thanks for your replies. With regard to No.5 injector - this was changed as the diagnostics indicated that there was a problem with this injector.
With regard to the wastegate possibly seizing when hot. This does not seem to fit with the symptoms as the engine can quite happily perform satisfactorily for 3.5hrs on first starting but fails once the engine has been stopped & cooled. However having read many other posts on similar topics, I believe that further investigation of the wastegate control system may be beneficial, so it is one for the 'to do' list.
Thanks for the tip regarding the plug into the ECU and I will certainly be following up on that.
Any further suggestions will be very welcome.
