I have a 1996 Land Rover Disco. I disconnected my battery and then reconnected it. The alarm goes off. My doors are a bit faulty and the alarm won't turn off when i unlock the door. I disconnected the horns so it doesn't make noise but can't start it still, of course. Any ideas on how to disconnect the alarm so that I can simply start the thing? The repair manual doesn't have much of anything on the alarm system.

You don't say that you re-syniced the fob with the alarm when you reconnected the battery, did you do this?
And WELCOME to the Forum :D

I got the vehicle used and never had a fob. No land rover dealers on my island here in the middle of the pacific. The rover cuts out intermittently while driving every once in a while as well. I read that these two problems could be related and fixable by tearing apart my dash panel and re-soldering a dry joint on the circuit tracks under and behind the stereo. I don't want to go through this three hour process if i might be able to disconnect the alarm in some other manner. I am not even positive the re-soldering is going to fix anything either. Any help is appreciated!
Aloha.

So i tore apart my dash and looked for the "spider box" which is the alarm immobilizer etc. and it isn't there. Any ideas on where it could be located?

Like an idiot i realised i put my battery in backwards. when i reconnected it properly the engine will turn over and then cut out now. i assume this is the immobiliser relay but do not have a spider unit under the dash. any ideas? it is not a diesel and the immobiliser is only connected to the starter and the ignition, not the fuel pump. thank you for your help!

If you don't have a fob then the engine immobiliser must have been deactivated, for you to be able to drive your disco.
Connecting the battery in reverse may now have activated the immobiliser, do deactavate the immobiliser again you must enter your EKA code.
With a uk spec disco without a fob we are unable to disarm the alarm system.
