can anyone tell me what the story is with autotents - in the LR mags they are all the rage - you put the tent up - reverse the disco or 110 into the tent hook it together and then bob's your uncle........
WHY????
apart from having a nice smell of Carbon monoxide floating around - can anyone tell me how this is an advantage to a normal tent?
do we sleep in the car? is that the reason?

I guess they're just an extension of the car. If you've got a 110, you could kip in the back of it, and have more people in the tent, or plug stuff into your 12v, or listen to the stereo, or use the interior lights, or other things you just couldn't possible live without!!!

in the morning you just have to be careful and dont forget to unattach before dashing off for a loaf of bread, you could end up dragging your family around the field

the Auto Tent is as described above, not that I have one though I have seen them in use, I think quite handy if you are roof top camping and need a reasonably sturdy area to stand up, cook and do whatever in bad weather.
I still use my old green sheet strung up between trees and Landy to keep dry.
Beware I have seen a few types on the market, some are only 99£ while others are 250£+ so I guess the quaility and durability show respective.
