I know the hardcore LR owners here will laugh but I don't have much knowledge of cars mechanics so I have to rely (and pay) for someone else to do it.

I found this on Google:

http://www.prestigecarservicing.com/landroverservice.html

They have 2 Servicing options for Discovery plus the MOT.

It will be around £150 for the basic service and £250 for a complete one. Is this reasonable or a rip off? Could anyone recommend something?

My Disco: (1990-Petrol-133k-V8)

Thanks

A bit far for me to travel

TBH there not bad pricies but be sure to ask exactly what is involved and included in the service, they might hit you with much more once its on there ramp!

Similar to Kwik Fit they change the engine oil and thats about it, the rest is check only. I can't see them toping up the diffs or greasing the prob.

London is not that great for Land Rover Indies (but would love to be corrected on that !!) . I actually use someone outside of London these days , partly to save money , but mostly because there is no one local any more with the vehicle specific expertise I think you are best to seek. I do what I can myself , but there is a limit to what you can do on a driveway (with wife scowling at the inevitable pool of oil and crud that comes from a good day under the bonnet :D ) , so when i do go to a garage I really want them to know at least as much as I do about Land Rovers as a minimum and ideally be just a little bit passionate about too if possible.

Be keen to hear of any such gems in the London Area , whether Forum subscribers or not .

I would gladly let you know who I use but I am in North London and they are North of that , but if you want details just PM me .

Roger Whittle recently posted about a good independant garage he found somewhere in 'Sarfiest Landin' :D.

I must ask him to post up the details again.

For those Land Rover anoraks in darkest South London, I have recently used QUADRATECH in 53A Brading Road, Upper Tulse Hill, SW2 2AP which is just off Brixton Hill not far from the prison, but on the opposite side.

The service was excellent and they charged me £99 to replace a blown top hose on my SII Disco, including antifreeze, all parts and labour. Their labour rate is £45/hour.

Phone John or Pat on 0208 671 8100 - I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised. Its not every day you see an Austin Champ and two - count them - two 101 GSs! :D

Roger.

Isn't 99 quid considered a LOT for a replacement Disco top hose? Just enquiring as I was thinking about moving down that way and the specialist prognosis looks bleak!

£99 isn't bad for a garage to replace a hose and anti freeze. If I was in a bind and couldn't do it myself cos of time I would be happy to pay that!

Hmmm, I'm spoilt with a decent mech...except he lives out in t'woods.

£15.00 Top hose
£15.00 for some coolant
Leave less that 50 for the garage (taking out the dreaded). So they are effectively working for about 35 an hour - good for Londres.
