Landycrew,
I think the first place you should investigate is the selector, it may be that it has not been replaced correctly when the transfer box was replaced after the gearbox change (assuming the transfer box was removed as well). I am not sure if is possible to get the selector incorrectly connected though as I have not yet had to remove any gearboxes from my Disco.

Landycrew,

I have just had a look at the workshop maunual and there are detailed removal and re-fitting procedures, which differ depending on whether TDi or V8i.
With the TDi it mentions ensuring that the transfer box is selected in Low range before removal, also for refitting the transfer box to the gearbox the gearbox should be selected "P" and the transfer box selected Low range and Difflock.
The procedures for TDi also mention that the selector lever should be transferrd from the old to the replacement gearbox. It also warns that it is important to remove the spacer from the extension shaft and fit to the new one.

The selecto on the transfer box looks like a mechanical lever selector, the selector on the auto box looks as if it is a lever that is operated by cable from the gear lever. There is also a kick-down cable that connects to the fuel pump.

You mention that the diff lock light is on all the time. Have you checked that diff lock is actually selected (ie is the diff locked) (thought process, is diff lock selected or is it just an indication problem - have they connected the wire to the temp sensor instead of the diff lock sensor for instance(not sure if this is possible or not, just a thought)

I am afraid that is where the limit of my thoughts.

I would be tempted to take it back to the garage and insist that they sort it out, and if they do not have the know how they need to take it to a Land Rover specialist at their expense
