Hi, first post.
Disco has only done 35,000 mls and is in mint condition, but I get a what I would describe as a shimmy through the steering when going over a rough bit of road, I have had quite a few Discos but not for a while and dont remember getting this before.
On another point I am just about to get a new set of tyres, and I am thinking of going for 255/6o/18 General UHP rather than 255/55/18 do es anyone have any experiance with this.
Thanks in advance Rick

Have a look at the steering damper on the front axle, it takes a lot of stick.

We have 255-65 X 16 Pirelli Scorpions on our own V8 D2. We found the lower profile tyres were a bit harsh.

The other things to check are the swivels, top and bottom and the outer tie road ball joints.

Mine can be a bit of a wanderer of late like posted .

Checked all the tracking and seems fine . I guess Damper has been on my mind but had it changed a few years ago so didnt expect it to fail again , but if its a known point of fail might just replace and be damned .

Is it a straight forward bolt on job ?

Looks like it is just the two end fitting nuts etc.

It must be a 'gas over oil' unit as an all-oil one wouldn't be too happy laying down.

It seems to be free of any pre-removal requirements which always dulls my enthusiasm for this sort of thing , if there is an uprated spec one then it may just find its way onto there quite soon now :)
