I have an HP 2600n Colour Laser printer which works well for text etc. printing but does not give good results with photographs, even when using "Laser Photographic" paper.

SWMBO wants to have "good" prints of her photographs so I am considering purchasing a dedicated photo printer.

Personally, I do not like to use inkjet as my experience has been that the colours will "run" if the prints get damp but this may have been overcome since I last used an inkjet - certainly there are many availble and lots of people use them.

My camera is 5 megapixel and SWMBO's is 8 Mp (both with Leitz optics), if this would affect the choice of printer.

Do any of you have any reccomendations?

Personally I have my eye on an Oki (http://www.shopoki.co.uk/acatalog/c3450.html?source=c3450adwords). A friend has one and the print quality is very good. £213 delivered; I'm saving up....

Hi,

I've had a HP Photo deskjet (D7160) for a year or so now. I'm very impressed with A4 colour photos it prints. It's a 6 cartridge printer (5 colours + black), individual cartridges so when one is empty you only replace that one. I've been using semi gloss photo paper and once the ink is dry I haven't experienced any smudging or runs.

Paid less than £70 at comet, haggled and got 2 free packs of photo paper, 1 pack of standard paper and half price on a hp ink refill pack (all 6 cartridges).

If you do go for a inkjet remember to check cost & availability of replacement ink. New printers come with a minimal amount of ink (5-10ml) where as a standard cartridge typically around 30-40ml.
