Hello there, have a 2.0l freelander which is reving up on it's own,to around 3000rpm,wether you are driving or stationary,it has suposed to have had a new foot potentiometer switch.Think the previous owner has never been able to get to the bottom of it.It will run fine for days on end then start reving again.Have tested the signal from pot to ecu and it seems stable and voltage doesn't rise when it revving up,no glitchs.disconected throttle pot harness and it stopped reving...!When it goes it goes well,no smoke etc..is there anything i can look at? put a new diesel filter on and checked pipes and fittings incase of air, need some advice????????? ecu seems to have no live data,to old i supose, but no codes logged, but engine check light is on!! when playing up,

ccheers sparky.

Without 'live data' this fault could be difficult to locate.

There is an important engine management earth point (Header K108) which should be clean and tight.

It seems uncertain whether the throttle potentiometer has in fact been replaced?

I would check the alternator output voltage whilst the fault is occuring (overcharging intermittently may be a factor)

In the absence of 'live data' I would temporarily connect a Multimeter between throttle potentiometer earth line and voltage signal output cables in order to monitor the signal whilst driving around.

Good luck
