I own a 2002 Freelander HSE. With the driving lights off the passenger side (USA) brake light comes on when I press the brake pedal, as it should. However, when I turn the driving lights on and press the brake pedal, the passenger side (USA) brake light does NOT come on. All other rear lights are functioning properly. Any help is appreciated!!:o

It could be a bad earth connection, incorrect or incorrectly fitted bulb or water ingress into wiring or lamp.

Also check the fuses...

FIXED IT!! The electrical leads in the bulb holder needed to be cleaned. Works like a champ now.:D

Rooky question - what type of screwdriver do you need to remove the outer case of the rear tail lights? My tail lights are working but my brake lights are not - I need to fix :)

It's a T20 Torx. Well worth investing in a set of Torx bits if you don't already have some, if not you can buy a single T20 screwdriver. All available from Halfrauds. :)

If both sides aren't working it could be the brake light swich...

Thanks for the info Chaser.

Yep both sides are gone - was thinking this was a bit of a coincidence alright. Where would I find the brake light switch??

BTW - nice Freelander ;)

The brake light switch is near the pedal, it has a multiplug with I think three wires and twists out like a bayonet fitting.

If you find it's the switch and have to replace it it needs to be set, when fitting you hold the pedal down, pull out the switch plunger, locate the switch then release the pedal.

Also check for blown fuses, possibly no.2 in passenger compartment fuse box.
