Just got my disco back from the dealer it's been in for the last 2 days for a head gasket.

Thought about doing it myself but couldn't afford it to be off the road or me making a bo****ks of it and the last land rover head I did was a 109 2 1/4 petrol some 20 years ago

They told me the gasket was "blowing out" on number 4 when it went in for the electrical problem on the alarm the other week, I had noticed the engine noise change but couldn't find anything wrong and it still started and drove without a problem or noticeable change in performance.

12 years old, genuine 45,837 miles on the clock and a blown gasket at least it wasn't over heating , loosing water or contaminated the oil.

The mechanic was surprised when he stripped the head to find the original head gasket, whats he know about land rovers and head gaskets :D

So I've now got £549.10 less in my bank account, a quieter running engine and no need to adjust the tappets.

Forgot to ask if it will need to go back in to have its head re torqued in a week or so?

Took me 8 hours to change my head gasket the other week, nice to know how much money I have saved, but don't tell my wife or she will somehow lay claim to it ;)

The 300 doesn't need a re-torque.

Thanks

No wonder they didn't ask me to book it in.

Is it me or are dealers more helpful at the moment?

Guess they are trying to keep the workshops full.
