Hi,

The speakers in my disco are abysmal, the crack and bounce like hell, anyone recommend some decent upgrades?

Cheers,
Iain

I had some Kenwood jobs knocking about from my old Omega, which I cut out some holes for in the rear trim panels

Then when the front speakers went, I just bought some £25 Kenwood 10cm speakers in Halford, which I think now all sounds good. All I wanted was a decent, clean sound, I'm not after the most amazing deepest notes or highest frequency, just something that doesn't annoy me with knocking all the time, like you say

Discovery's don't make a good place for an amazing set up unless you invest some serious time plugging the gaps and getting better panels!

Hi,

How easy was it to change the front speakers?

Very, if you have a Disco like mine, its 4 screws and a wiring connector to undo...

in about 10 mins.

The only thing to watch is that the new speakers will be invariably chunkier and wider than the old ones, and the magnet will protrude more. I put a bit of gaffa tape around the inside of the door on the brace, you'll see where I mean

Any motor shop should have 10cm speakers for about £20. I have some Pioneer ones in the front that cost me a tenner from someone and some old Audioline ones in the back that I had lying round the garage. The sound is 100% better!

As above, 4x screws and 2x push on connectors for each speaker. Easiest job you can do on a Disco!

Just make sure they are the same impedance. THis will be marked on the reverse of the speakers typically.

JL Audio are by far the best straight swap speakers you can put in a Discovery.
Cost around 60 pounds a pair.

I've tried Kenwoods, SONY, Pioneer and Denon. All are rubbish in camparison.

In my 94 300 Disco the speakers have been replaced by some decent ones, but my rear door has a pair of standard fit (in an ES) speakers in a housing, and unless i dial out the base all i get is boom. should i disconnect this box effort and just use the pillar speakers in the rear?:)

You could first try filling the speaker boxes with some accoustic filler...or do what I did.....tear open a used pillow and stuff the boxes with the fibre wool matting.
It makes alot of difference to the sound quality.
Also check that you have the correct polarity on the speaker connections.

Is the enclosure that is fitted onto the back door just bass speakers ? as they are wired in along with a pair of jl speakers in the rear pillars should i disconnect the box and just use the pillar speakers ?:)
