Hi guys,
I just installed a 4.6 P38 engine to my discovery but the engine is work quite hot. I used a standard 3.9 v8 radiator incorporating both the engine and transmission coolers inside. As in Malta the climate is quite hot do you think the radiator will be able to keep the engine from overheating with both oil coolers inside? Or would be better to make separate air coolers for engine and transmission oil? What’s best using on a 4.6 engine as a thermostat? The one inside the thermostat housing as the old ones or the external one as used in the P38.

Thanks for your help.

Before you put a new rad in, is the cooling circuit clean / reversed flushed & the water pump is circulating, and the correct mix 50/50.

If I'm not mistaken the stat is a 88c one.

I have the same spec rad, a few years back I started to see it struggle in the summer heat 50c + so i had it re-cored, re-built with a low fin height model from http://www.serckgulf.com/ in short you get more fins per inch, so greater cooling area.

If you can"t get it done in Malta, and the above company won't ship from Dubai, look for a NAS spec Disco rad, as they are designed for the 4.6l NAS Disco's and should have no problems.

You might want to investigate the option of re-routing the oil cooler,/ tranny cooler kenlowe in the UK do a good model , or try www.jegs.com they have loads of stuff, and will ship to this part of the world.
