My TD5 160K miles has recently been giving problems with regard to the tick-over rev. It will run fine for a while and then it will idle at 1000rpm and then for no apparent reason drop back to +/-750rpm.
I also have a problem with the water temp jumping up and down and at times the temp guage drops off the scale and the red light appears. If I stop the motor and restart the light disappears.
Any help with regard to these prblems would be appreciated.
Keep lovong your Landy!!!!

Hi,
There is oil residue on all the connectors going into the ECU. I am not too technical and am looking at the +/- wires that are located on the side of the ECU, I only know what is the ECU because I found a picture on the web, so please bare with me.
More enthusiasm than skill I'm afraid.
Cheers for any help you can give me.

Hi there mate, don't worry about a lack of knowledge, we all started out knowing nothing !!!

Have a look at this guy's brilliant site, it shows in detail about the oil problem and how to fix it.

http://www.discovery2.co.uk/Injector_harness.html

It's a really good site with loads of useful, well photographed and well-written articles.

Good luck

Dave

Cheers, many thanks for the info.

Have had a quick look at the site and it even makes sense to me, thanks goodness for the pictures and clear instruction, it is just about idiot proof!

Will make sure I have a couple of days spare in case it all goes tits up and will give it a go.

Thanks again.

I did mine using his tips and found it very easy - one thing that your not told is that refitting the rocker cover , with a new gasket , is a real fiddly pig of a job - much swearing involved !!!!!

Ah be fair, theres a couple of "tips" in there to "aid" the re-fitting (like small dabs of hylomar to hold gasket on the rocker cover and manouvering the rear engine cover out the way ) but I agree its a little frustrating.;)

Yes, I used the hammer handle tip to hold the rear engine cover out of the way. Worked a treat. Cheers!

Also, I bought a non genuine new gasket and it was too flexible to stay on the rocker cover for fitting. I ended up having to re-use the old gasket, but it worked ok.
