I'm sure this must have been asked before, if so could someone point me at the thread?

I have bought a 1999 V8 Discovery 2. The dealer supplied me with 1 remote key which works.

I have no Key number and no EKA.

Can I find these out? What is the cheapest way to get a second remote key to guard against loss or failure of the one I have.

Cheers

Try a Land Rover dealer, may even supply a key and programmed while u wait at they have all the info including EKA in their vehicle data base. Also you could try "Remote Key" on the www.

OK thanks.

I have a hunch that Land Rover will be very expensive.
But I'll give them a call.

I also found http://remotekey.co.uk (http://remotekey.co.uk)which is very local to me

We got our numbers from the local dealer at no charge, we also then bought a pair of new keys, as the only one we had got chucked in a bonfire by mistake.....

You need the full VIN number and reg details.

If you have the old key, then they can cut against the profile, if you have NO keys at all, then it's a lock change.

If you want to get your EKA code you can e-mail a charming helpful lady by the name of Constance Kane at Jaguar/Land Rover on the following e-mail address:

Kane, Constance (C.) <ckane@jaguarlandrover.com>

She will ask you for a copy of your V5 as proof of ownership.

I would get the EKA read from the car's BCU via Testbook as they often are different from what LR hav logged in traceability. That way you can be sure the code is the correct one.I fitted/coded up a new BCU to a V8 DII on Friday for a sales mob at a local garage - do you really think they will bother to contact LR to update the puter ?

Good point thanks.

I have another thread asking about the car not running well on petrol but fine on LPG, an answer there requires a testbook too.

Is this a main dealer only piece of equipment? or do local independents have them?

Is there any affordable DIY version, or laptop software?

Thanks
Chris

Some independants,(Like me) have Testbook, many others have Autologic and a few have Rovacom. They will all perform the functions you need, there is the Nanocom system for individual owners but I dont think it covers the V8 Motronic engines, only TD5.Another one is available from Blackbox Solutions, have a look on their website, they made the Rovacom system.

Thanks John

Shame I'm not near Bath!
I'll have a look thanks.

PS is there a procedure for doing an "adaptive reset of the Motronic ECU" by disconnecting the battery or anything else I could try?

After reading around on here, I'm now scared of trying anything for fear of upsetting the many systems on the car.
