Td5 auto..........................

Potentially stupid question............ But

Driving with the radio off and the window open I've become aware of a noise. When lifting off at about 2500 revs I can faintly hear a kind of turbo "Whoosh".... like a petrol turbo recirculating valve operating on a SAAB

I've only recently noticed this...... is it normal or does it indicate a loose hose clip, split hose etc?

Put my mind at rest

Hi
Mine whistles a little and you can hear it with the windows down. Not had it long but brother in law has a TD5 manual and he has no whistle at all. I think maybe the Auto has a different turbo anyway but not realy looked into it. 'If it aint broke dont fix it!' As for a rushing sound, it is a lot of air being forced through relatively small pipes, I would expect to hear something especialy at 2500rpm as thats when the valve is fully open.

Hope this helps.

If it does'nt drive my 22 year old 110 and you'll forget about all your noises!:D

ive got an 03 manual that usually gives an audible whine at 1500 revs, last week i changed the intercooler as a maintenance thing. After takeing it for a test drive to my horror i heard an audable whoosh instead of a whine, also a distinct loss of power, the engine went into safe mode . i also observed lots of white smoke from the exhaust. on inspection one of the intercooler pipes had fell off. once i had re fastened the pipe ,that audable whine was back. is this any help to you

Thanks chaps, I'm probably worying about nothing - close the window and I can't hear a thing.

I have a new intercooler and hoses to put on as a precaution before going to the Alps with the caravan in tow. Just a case of making time to do it.
