Well changed the lower seals, which was a nightmare, started her up and blew out the new seals.
looking at re-con boxes they all ask for a surcharge of circa £100, repayable upon the box being suitable for reconditioning.
My question is has anyones box been turned down, and what criteria is it based own.

I used to work for a motor factors and sold a lot of recon steering boxes for various cars/ trucks and the main reason for rejection of old core was cracked or damaged casings, threads, arms etc. though to be fair in 15 years i think we only got rejection notes back on two steering boxes whereas they would always be knocking back old core racks.
TBH you are best asking the supplier for an old core criteria as it saves any arguments.
What i will say is that recon steering boxes DO vary in quality from differing sources so its worth finding a recon supplier with a good reputation for quality and warranty service. Some willl even recon your old box for you instead of just swapping it for one already done off the shelf, that way there is no query over fitment.
I don't know if they sell direct to the public or not but in all my years in the trade i always found G.B Automotive in West Yorkshire (Dewsbury, i think) to be the most helpful & the best quality, might be worth giving them a ring ?
