I'm about to do some work on a Disco that has had the above lights come on recently, before I start checking sensors is there a self test I can do? (My Merc does when I ground a pin out )

I'm told that what sounded like ABS would cut in when the owner went a bit quickly over speed humps but not braking. I'm guessing this might be traction control kicking in a bit enthusiastically?

Finally, I've heard all the "can only be reset at the dealer" stories, are these lights like that or will they go out when the problem is fixed?

The car is a 1999 TD5.

Any loss of traction will result in the noise you describe as the traction control engages. It will be accompanied by the "TC" lamp on the instrument panel illuminating for a couple of seconds before extinguishing.
It is possible that you have a faulty hub and if so, this will need replacing, it's not a servicable part. It could of course be a sensor fault. Yes, a dealer can reset the fault codes but you dont need to attend a Land Rover dealer to have this done.
I've sent you a pm.
