I was looking at a 110 V8 GS yesterday. Does anyone know for what purpose these were intended to be used for? The MoD seem to have bought a batch around 1990 on xxKJxx plates. Were they for units that needed something faster than a 2.5 diesel, or did Land Rover have a sale on?
Sorry if I am being a bit daft, but this is bugging me.
TIA
Adrian
Originally they were mainly used by 5 Airborne Brigade units, who still used petrol as their sole fuel - all their vehicles could run on spare fuel down-loaded from RAF Hercules wing tanks. They were also used by military units in the Falklands for the same single-fuel reason. Original identification feature was small Land Rover badge on radiator grille.

UKMAMS (RAF guys who set up aircraft handling in foreign places) also used batch of V8 Stsation Wagons

Thanks Bob.
I have decided to buy the beast so will trace it's history through the EMLRA. It is 13KJ19 and was disposed of by HQ 4 Div.

My 110 V8 GS was suffed with RAF recruiting leaflets when it came from auction. Presumably it had been used to tow a recruiting trailer.

 Is that an AEC MK3 Recovery vehicle? Is it yours? What a beast. Ideal for dragging unsuspecting victims out of mudholes on our club driving days. I am humbled and impressed.
