can anyone tell me what the multi pin socket in drivers footwell is for; 98 300 tdi auto. also would like to thank the bloke who suggested the one pence coin behind the fan belt tensioner to cure noisy fanbelt .saved me a fortune, cheers

I think the socket you are referring to is the obd (on board diagnostic) socket. You can plug in a terminal to read fault codes on things like the ABS system.
