over the last couple of months, i've started to notice that my clutch pedal feels odd. my disco has had a gentle life to say the least! owned by a stately home for 1st 50k, then a 'chelsea tractor' for 20k, now me.

when you press it down, there is quite a bit of soft 'nothingness' before you actually feel the 'pressure' of pressing the clutch. previously there was always a bit of 'free movement' before the pressure, it just seems to be getting more.

i don't use the lany much, only to tow my race car (towed weight, 2150kilos) around the country.

however, even with the trailer loaded up, if i put it into 3rd gear to pull away (to test clutch) the engine dies right away, no slipping.

disco has just gone over the 80k miles mark.

any thoughts?

can i bleed the clutch? is it hydralic?

thanks, Tim

Almost certainly hydraulic. I would personally start with the slave cylinder and also check the clutch fork.

When you press the clutch pedal, does it come up again on it's own?

If it does, the fork must still be ok (even if it's preparing to self-destruct)

So it'll be in the hydraulic circuit as CE says.

I would be inclined to replace the fluid in the circuit before doing anything else, just as process of elimination.

£15 for the slave cylinder, £35 for the master cylinder. At that mileage I'd change them both. Ours had 89k on the clock and both were pretty scored in the bores, and I wouldn't fit a repair kit with scoring in evidence.

Couldn't find the part for sale, or couldn't find it on the motor? ;)

Plenty of places with complete m/cylinders, look either on ebay, LRSeries, Paddocks etc.
