Hello All,
Thats me back from a good stint oversea's, need to know what the output (Wattage) of the speakers are in the Harmon Kardon system as fitted to an '05 TD4 HSE, I removed the sub-woofer in the boot as it bounced my two little dogs all over the place!!!! and promptly gave it to someone!! (no idea who) on this forum, I need to put another speaker in its place but one without the sub-woofer effect, any help would be appreciated, I know it needs to be a 6.5" speaker, does anyone have a spare door speaker that they want to get rid of/sell?
cheers for now

Hi Maffy,
Long time no see on here, hope you are well.
How come you need to replace it?
As far as i know, any speaker you put there will be quite "bassey" as thats what signal is sent from the socket that speaker is attached to.
Are you wanting to put it in that box in the boot again?
If so, you will need a case for it. The best solutions i can think of are either replace the sub itself, or possibly use the centre speaker from a surround cinema system.
All the best

Hi Robbie, Thanks for the info, I am trying to avoid the "Bassey" sound if possible, as I said it bounces my two dogs about something cronic!. any idea what the size/wattage of the speaker is I need, yes i will be putting it back in the boot to "complete the circuit" so to speak, as without something the stereo sounds like it came from Latvia or somewhere!!!!
I am have been out in the Indian oceon for 6 weeks working a job sounds exciting but wasn't really, best bit was the lear jet from Johanesburgh!! thats the way to travel. anyway back to normality once more until the next time
hope you are keeping well and that all your troubles are behind you now

Morning Maffy,
Things are odd round here at the moment. Sonce losing my job i have had to do agency driving. Some weeks i nearly triple what i used to earn, but this week just gone i haven't worked at all :o
With your speaker, i don't think it matters so much what the output of the stereo is, it's more the sound ranges it is designed to play.
The tweeters in you door mirror covers are to get the high pitched sounds and a sub woofer is to get the low rumbles.
Just putting any speaker in there and turning the bass down on the head unit should do it. Or not replacing it and turning up the bass on the head unit should make the other speakes a bit deeper.
Whatever speaker you put in the boot, for you to hear it and for it to complete your sound, your dogs will feel it i'm afraid. By the nature of what a speaker is, it works on vibrations.
If you still want to know what the "wattage" is, it will tell you at the back of the handbook for you head unit.
I have kinda confused myself now so yo ushould understand it all perfectly...... ;)

Right then, got a speker, stripped the wire, connected the new speaker, all I achieved was to blow the fuse on the audio!!! I dont understand, why oh why do I attempt things that I have no knowledge of? So back to square one, does anyone know what I need to do, I found 4 wires on the (now extinct) landy speaker plug red/grey, grey/grey. grey/black. grey/brown. who what where when, how!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks in adavance of any suggestions.

Maffy,
Where did you disconnect the original speaker from?
Where did you connect the new one to?
Did you put "Spades" on it or just connect the wires?
I don't understand why you have 4 wires doing nothing?
And chance of a picture?
Have you taken the head unit fully out?

Hi Robbie,
I have 4 wires in the cubby hole in the boot-where the sub-woofer used to be, I did put spade connectors on each wire, but I am not sure I connected them the correct way, WHEN I WAS A BOY SPEAKERS JUST HAD 2 WIRES!!!!!! anyway, I had no need to extract the head unit as the wires are connected to the amp under the drivers seat, until I understand which wires are which I ain't getting anywhere fast
cheers for now

ps glad things in gen are working out for you.:)

Is it possible that 2 of the wires are the power supply for the amp.
This would explain why the fuse blew.

I only know speakers to have 2 wires.
Out of the 4 different coloured wires you have, do they all turn up at the amp under the seat?
Did you have to snip wires to get the sub out, or was it a pull out connection from the back of the speaker?
Do any of the coloured wires match the colours of the speaker wire you have?

Hi chaps, thanks for the replies, the wires were all part of a fixed connection that I simply disconnected from the sub-woofer, the connecetor is now goosed as I cut it off!!! EEEK!! so I now have absolutely no clue as to what is what, am going to a local LR independant tomorrow to ask them
cheers for now.:)

Maffy,
You may be as well sourcing an original sub again, putting the 4 wires on spades and running that system, but with the bass turned right down.
That will give you the complete sound again but tailored to your tastes, ie not as thumpy.

Hi Robbie, that thought had crossed my mind, bearing in mind I casually gave mine away FREE, i have found one on e-bay for £55-00!!!!!!! how dischuffed am I right now, still I suppose it helped someone else, cant even remember who I gave it too, never had a response from him/her-not even a ta!-and I paid for the postage--about £8 if I remember.

We had a guy like that when we sold a wing mirror a couple of weeks ago. It was like it was our fault that there was a postal strike where HE lives!
Before yo ubuy anything, try and adjust the sound setting on your head unit.
When you have a sub, you tend to turn the bass down because it falls in the ranges that the sub picks up anyway, so if you have the bass turned high it overloads it and distorts.
Failing that, i got some door tweeters and other bit from a breakers in Aberdeenshire. Very cheaply priced and he is willing to post. I know the FL he has has the Harmon Kardon sound system so i will give you his details if you decide to go down that route.
