i did mine last week (300tdi 115k) i found it to be smoother acelerating and maybe a little bit faster. (but dont do it to go quicker its not that fast). ive been told that the mpg is improved too. but its too early for me to tell.
For the £18 kit (blank, gasket and new top hose) i think it was well worth the the mod.

You could just try and blank off the egr to inlet feed pipe and leave the valve in place:

as for benefits - seems to spool up turbo slightly faster and I can guarantee there's no more nasty ooze getting caked all over the inlet manifold.

i had a look at the egr, took of the pipe and clocked all the black gunk in pipe and intercooler. i will make a blanking plate up with abit of scrap steel and wled a plug to the pipe, just rememberd ive a bit of gasket paper too.

yeh i did mine a couple of weeks ago as you say not a big improvment at first but after a couple of days i found it seamed to have more bottom end but did notice that the air intake manifold had oil in it so will have to do that and will do the intercooler at the same time later.
