Hi all,

Firstly, i aren't very mechanically minded, so answers in Noddy language please :D

I have now got a 90 with a 2.5TD 19j engine in it. It's an original engine that has just turned 88k.

Are there any alternatives to diesel that i can run it on without any ill effects or modifications needed?

I have had a quick look through this section and couldn't see anything for the 19j, so any input greatly appreciated, thank you.

The same things apply for the 19J as the 12J, not really the news you're wanting to hear. The problems all down to the fuel pump, the only way WVO can be used or any bio fuel is with a twin tank set up that allows the engine to get up to running temp on diesel, then changing over to bio/wvo etc then before you stop the engine switch back over diesel and run until all traces of bio/wvo are out of the fuel lines/pump etc.

Thanks Jon,

It's a bit disappointing, but i've lost nowt i suppose.

I also have a TD4 and wouldn't even consider putting anything other than diesel in it at the moment, so feeding the government using a 19j too i will just have to put up with.

ive been running a 50/50 ish mix of veg oil and diesel in mine for over two years now with no worries. my 19j loves it.

usually during winter i lay off the veg a bit.

edit , i just chuck it in the tank , its not that much cheaper but it does make the engine run better.

Thanks Nobber,

Do you put new or used veg oil in it?

How does it run better?
Mine is quite smokey, but not as bad as when i got it a month or so ago. The Millers oils diesel additive is working its usual magic.

i use new oil , i normally put it in when i am filling up with diesel. veg oil first then diesel to stir it up and mix in then a good bumpy drive (i live in the back of beyond) along some country roads to make sure it mixes up ok.

it seems to run smoother , idle a tad higher and it gives it a slight power increase but the engine does run slightly cooler as well.

make sure though that you change the fuel filter regularly and run some redex through it every now and again.

edit - what kind of smoky are you getting? if its injector related veg oil may not be a good idea.
