A quick query:

This stupid laptop running XP and using IE, if i dont touch the touchpad for a few moments then touch it to navigate the pointer it often seems to press "back" on the browser.... well it doesnt press the back button but the browser goes back a page.... does anybody know how i can stop it doing this before it gets thrown against the wall?

Check the touchpad settings first, it might be set to go back a page with a single tap of the pad.

The touchpad settings should be found in the control panel area, but it might be listed with the trade name of that type of pad. You may also find an icon on the bottom right for the touchpad settings as well.

thanks for reply.... i looked but coudnt see a setting anywhere... worked out if i put my finger on touchpad, wait a millsecond before moving it left it goes back.... if i put finger on touchpad, hold it then right a little it goes forward. Very annoying as i would rather just use the buttons on the browser.

The laptop I am using at the moment has a icon in the bottom right called Synaptics pointing device, if I double click on this, it gives me a range of the touch pad.....

Have you tried using a mouse in the USB port, and see if you have any issues with the normal mouse.

Sounds as though you have 'mouse gestures' enabled.
As Lighting90 says, it will be in your synaptic settings somewhere.

If your running IE8, it may be in the options for the browser. I stopped using IE after version 5 so I can't say for sure.
