View Full Version : Naturism and the mind set

First off, before anyone starts taking the pee - stop now:p

As some of you know both myself and Ali enjoy naturism.

Well we have spent the weekend at a naturist campsite about 15 mins drive from here (Tything Barn) and you just would not believe how relaxed we both are tonight. The weather has been wonderful and we have both had a great weekend.

'tis funny, but as Ali chatted to naked people last evening I was showering with other naked people, then, it got chilly, so we got dressed and had a bonfire.

I don't know whether there are any other naturists on LRUK but you really need to try it, it is simply the most friendly pastime that I know. Just chuck them silly inhibitions out of the window and chill:sunshine:

cheers, Tim

Well I have been into naturism since 1989 before my twins were born, but, before we moved to Pembrokeshire Ali had never worn a bikini, now she doesn't give a damn.

The thing is skimpy swimming costumes seem to be designed to titillate, naked bodies, well, we are all born that way:)

Why to do feel you have to loose weight to go naked?

As for
fury bits It is strange how a lot of naturists seem to shave which I can't understand:confused:

Never been to a naturist camp, but have spent plenty of time skinny dipping, walking down the beach with mates, admittedly usually after a few brews lol

But cant see a problem with it, i have nothing to hide.

I tried working on the Landy in the nude... but the dangly bits keep getting in the way (especially of the large hammer), and I got such a bad case of sunburn from the arc welding... ;)

Seriously though... I love the idea of naturism. As a young child I was often taken on holiday by my parents to Mozambique, and I remember those wonderful, carefree days on a completely deserted beach, completely naked. There was no reason to wear clothes (except the one time when I was stung after sitting on a bee ). My brother and I spent our holidays running around in paradise stark naked. It was sheer bliss.

Today however, age, MacDonalds, beer, Cosmopolitan Magazine, sloth, etc. have taken their toll, and I'd be less than comfortable being nude in public. I still love the idea, but until I lose a few inches around the waist, and gain a few inches "you know where" ;) I'll give it a miss. ;)

My view of naturism was changed at a relatively early age as a young soldier in West Germany (as it was then). Me and some lads went to a local lake and got down to some swimming and drinking beer (which was kept several feet down and nice and cool) (I was 17 and new to germany) We were sat chilling, when past us troops a family....Grandad, Grandma, Dad, Mum, Gorgeous 17yr old Daughter (eyes pop out!!) and younger boy....all naked as a Jay bird. Then I realised that all around us were families who had not a stitch on, older wiser lads explained to me that it was quite natural in Germany for people to be 'closer to nature' and from that day on I was no longer embarrassed and if I am in company where everyone gets starkers, then I am just as happy as I am if a dinner jacket is the required form.(When in Rome) (Though I would rather cut my right hand off with a rusty hacksaw than wear some of the awful clothes that golfers used to? wear in America.)

Unless you are not the woman I met at Newark Pam, then you can't afford to loose two stone - otherwise you'd look anorexic. :) I will admit to the old memory being a bit frail nowadays, but my image of you is of quite a petit lady?

On holiday this year I had a wander up to the naturist bit of the beach just to suss it out and felt totally overdressed with swimming trunks on so I took them off and felt perfectly fine and comfortable. One of the best things is that you dry off quickly when you come out of the sea and don't have the soggy breeks hanging on you for ages afterwards. The big disadvantage is the risk of sunburn so clothes make a lot of sense too, but if you want to swim, or soak up some rays, then throwing them all off makes sense to me. I don't see the point of having to keep a wee tiny scrap of bikini on. (especially not if your a guy!) There's nothing much to see anyway apart from a wee bit of fur (or not) and its no big deal. The men have more on display than the women.

I'm sure we all have a natural curiosity about what's normally hidden but I felt no need to actively "not look". Its bad manners to stare, so you don't do that, but that's true of all human interactions. I just took a normal level of interest in my surroundings and the people about me. I reckon that people playing tennis on the beach in the buff can't be too bothered if I watch them playing and I wouldn't have been bothered if they been doing the same back. It was just like normal clothed life, only there were no clothes.

I don't know whether I'd go to a UK resort for the sole purpose of going about in the buff, but in the heat of the Mediterranean it seemed very natural and comfortable to do that.

I actually am quite interested to hear what people's views on it are. I don't think the wieeht/shape issue is important. People probably know you are carrying a bit of weight even when you are fully clothed and nothing really changes just because you take them off. No one really cares but you.

We where made to feel very welcome by everybody who spoke to us, as Tim said in his post this time three years ago i would have been a confirmed " textile" , but the fact that i am more secure in my relationship and in myself I have no problem with naturism, yes you do let everything go and that includes stress and troubles of the world! I would say try it once and see how you feel, it is not for everyone, but then Landies are not everybodies cup of tea, we on the forum just share a love of them.

Well put, Ali.
Bodil & I find that it's probably the only environment where people don't judge and comment on your physical appearance. Everyone is equal when you are naked. You don't see the difference between a dustman and a millionaire and it's easier to accept people for who they are.

It's not a pastime, Bob. It's a way of being, if you follow my gist.
It is rather hard to describe, but after getting over the first doubts it really is a feeling of freedom.
It's more a mental feeling than a physical one. I'm sure Tim & Ali know what I mean.

I certainly know what you mean. People snigger at the idea of naturism, but, like you say, it is very much a state of mind.

As I said further up the thread I was in a shower with another person (happened to be female but a male would have made no difference) and we showered (big shower cubicle I hasten to add) as Ali chatted to another person on the site.

I really hate wearing clothes. The UK climate isn't very naturist friendly though but I do like to try and get a naked outdoor smoke first thing in the morning before the day kicks off.

Tonight Ali came up with a very good point - should we leave the world naked??? Well that's the way we come into the world. Somehow though I can't imagine my kids wanting to see me in my coffin (if they do at all) naked.
