Hi guys

going to do the de catt down pipe tomorrow and just remembered when we first got the disco ( 2 months ago ) i had a look under it and found the sedimenter was covered in road crud and the dealer gave it a full service the day we picked it up so i am taking it hasn't been drained or changed so was thinking wile i am under there i mite as well clean it out and wanted to know is the fuel system self bleeding
the reason why i ask is i fitted a 200 tdi into my s11a and that had a self bleed system and woundered if the disco 300 tdi would be the same.

if it cuts out, crack all the injector pipes off and turn it over till fuel is coming out of the injectors, close each one up as it gets fuel there that will do the trick, phil

When I re-start the engine I keep it at a high tickover for about a minute to bleed out all the air.

Do you have the injectors cracked when you are bleeding out the air? (sorry for interrupting your thread fosters:o)

thanks

crack each one in turn as the engine is cranking. as soon as fuel comes out tighten the injector.

I fill the sedimentor with clean fuel, and put in a plastic measuring jug and offer it up and screw it in. the more air you can exclude the better, wear safety goggles as fuel in the eyes stings a bit.

I know each vehicle is different but whenever I drain sedimenter or filter its all clean & clear ,I think in this country their mainly superfluous [really for third world ..filling from cans etc.....countries{we're not there yet:cool:}where dust dregs & water contaminate fuel] I reckon if you refuel normally & dont let run too low ,you best leave well alone?

all derv fuel has some water in it. my sedimentor was at least 25% water when I drained into a filling jug, however i dont think you need to take them out and clean them every year. I did it when i first got her and there was a fair bit of gunge in it, since then just drain out the water.
