Last week, I replaced the rear brake light b
Thasnulb and all worked fine. I noticed this evening that the rear lights were on and when I applied the brakes, the replaced bulb goes out. Has the bulb blown again? if so, any ideas what may be causing it? If it hasn't blown, any ideas what the problem might be?

If the sidelight goes out when the pedal is pressed and the ignition is turned on, then you probably have a bad earth of the whole light assembly. The brake light takes more current than the sidelight and the voltage drops.

As said could well be a bad light fitting earth but my guess would be a poor earth contact in the stop/tail lamp holder as you've only changed the bulb. This would similarily only allow the tail light to earth through the stop lamps until they are powered up. The other lights would also be affected if it were the main earth.

Thanks for the replies. i will have a look this weekend. When I took the bulb out, I don't recall actual wires. I seem to recall they were soldiered type lines. Where do I find the earth wire?

It's probably a poor contact between the lamp holder and bulb so they need cleaning. The light fitting is connected via strips of metal to a fixed plug to the wiring that could also be suspect but much less likely.
