Possibly a sticking valve, cam follower or just a tappet too slack. Wouldn't worry if it's only slight and probably due to normal wear and tear.

So its nothing to do with the engine going any time soon. Thanks mate

So long as its been service properly and the noise is only slight when idling and otherwise it runs ok and the noise doesn't get any worse then there isn't much you can do about it, without hearing it running I couldn't be more definite. All machinery can get noisier with normal wear but if still concerned best get it looked at to put your mind at rest... or otherwise! A good hard run up the M1 often sorts out any sticking problems but check your oil and filter are ok and have been changed at the proper time before doing that.

Without hearing it in the flesh, I would say one more hydraulic tappets are playing up. Hydraulic tappets have a small ball and spring check valve in them and can be susceptable to dirty oil and/or infrequent oil changes.
To overhaul your tappets you need to remove the cams and timing belt pulleys, have some cam seals handy too while you do it as the cam seals are quite often leaky. Pull each hydraulic tappet out with the rubber sucker end of a valve grinding tool. With the tappet facing the open end down, bang it on a sturdy block of wood until the inner section falls out, this will enable you to get at the check valve assembly. You will be surprised at the dirt collected in the tappet. Clean in white spirit or same, coat in clean engine oil and reassemble carefully oberserving component order.
Job done over a weekend at very little cost and will make the noise go away in most cases.
Please be aware that start up will be noisy for a few minutes until tappet has been purged of air. Rev engine to speed up process.
Cylinder Compression pressures will be initially all over the shop and low readings, however once purged the cylinder pressures will return and be the more consistant between cylinders.
