One of the front bulbs not working on dipped beam - how easy are these to change? Also has anyone upgraded e.g to Xenon HiD effect?

Very easy. There is a cover on the back of the light that you turn about 1/8 th, and the bulb holder is inside. If it is pre-facelift, it is a H4 bulb for both beams, if post-facelift then each beam has a H7 bulb.
I buy mine from Autobulbs Direct, and use the up-rated Osram ones. These are supposed to be like HID lights, but with out the cost!
Beware the HID conversions that are advertised, especially from China. They are not e-marked and are therefore illegal, and unless you have a reflector that is specifically designed for them, they can cause much agrevation to other drivers as they do not "focus" correctly, and cause glare and incorrect patterns. My local MOT place regularly fails vehicles with them fitted.

Thanks Graham - I will have a look at the Osram - I have the facelift FL1 so it will be the H7.

Graham is, I think, referring to Osram Night Breakers.
They do give a lot more light, which is very helpful for an old git like me:(
However, their lifetime is a good deal shorter than regular bulbs because of the type of filamnet and gas used in them.

Malc is correct, those ones are great but the life isn't brilliant. I have now got these on order for the mains, (due to my bump smashing one)

and these for the dipped

I find this company very good for service, but wouldn't buy there own brand again, as I didn't find the life of those good at all. Ring make aren't bad, and I have heard good reports on the Halfords ones, but they are more expensive, and you have to deal with the idiots that work there!
If you want to go mad have a look at the price of the PIAA H7's.
Oh, and Autobulbs windscreen wipers are brill!!!
TIP, if the light covers are very stiff to turn, once you get them off give them a squirt of Mr Sheen or WD40. They are much easier after that. I think the rubber O ring dries out.

Graham, that Ultra Life is a great tip as we have to have dipped on 24/7 and I usually get through 3 pairs of bulbs a year:eek:
Will have to look for them over here.

No problem Malc. I seem to have mine on nearly all the time, as I go to work and come home in the dark at this time of year.

ive just ordered a set of phillips extreme h7's which are supposed to be the best in the business......having said that they are replacing a (expired) set of phillips vision plus bulbs which were excellent,so ill be pleased if they are much better than them..which lasted a good couple of years
