I've decided to upgrade from the dome tent iuse at Land Club events. Also buying a caravan means that Mrs G will come along too.

Do you know anybody in the Derby area with a nice caravan for sale? Age, model or size not important. But must be very good condition with a toilet compartment and less than £1000. Extras (awning, aquaroll, portapotti) would be nice too.

I'm watching 30 or 40 on Ebay and there is 10 or so nice ones on Autotrader, but sometimes the best ones get passed on word of mouth..

If your not in a rush and nothing takes your fancy you maybe better off waiting till the end of the season, might find a bargain?

Si,wait till the end of the season, we have friends who caravan and they got theres at the end of the season,
You will proberly find that owners look@ upgrading @ the end of the season to possibly a brand new one and will flog there old one.
A good place to start is caravan storage yards(the place were peeps store there vans over winter)
Quite often (aroundthese parts) the local farmer stores vans, and you often see Caravans for sale signs,or vans (outside the farm) with price in windows.

Hope that helps

Pete :)

Yes been looking. To be honest I'm been looking for a while, but what with my holiday and working away it's only this week I've had some time to *really* look for one.

I think I'm going to view a few tomorrow. Taking cash and bargaining hard.

Just towed it back from Doncaster to Belper.

No problems - just a few brown trouser moments as I got used to the feeling.

Small glitch with the twin electrics. Plugging in the grey lead (fridge/charger) brings on my reversing light....??!! Any ideas? Other socket for the lights works fine.

May be look myself too, what sort of money will a 4/5 berth one 6-2 years old fetch? Got a nice brochure from avondale today but £14k is well out of my league, looking around the £4-5k mark

Get on ebay mate. That's where the best prices are. you should get a nice mid 90's 'van for 4 to 5 grand. Look carefully at what extras you get with it too, as buying some of those things will add a few hundred to the total cost.

My Partner Tina:angel3: has just bought a Piper 1600 caravan for £300 out of the local Ad Trader, getting £150 off for being cheeky. She initially planned to spend £600 on one but decided to buy a cheap one and with the help of her parents and mine have successfully modified it to make it more comfortable for me and my dicky back. So we can go to events and it won't be such a strain and will be more enjoyable for me. We have ended up spending the full amount but have got a caravan which suits our needs, we did get a massive awning, aquaroll, waste container and other bits and pieces. Here's a pic with my Series to give you an idea of scale, this was originally a 6 berth but had been converted to 4 by a previous owner.

Tina's friend at work told her you can't tow a modern caravan with a leaf spring vehicle due to the flexing of the chassis, anybody know anything about this?

I think it was to do with the stiffness of the suspension being transmitted down through the caravan. I think the Dixon Bate shock link was designed to overcome this.

Aagh, don't think that will be a problem with our old caravan.
