Cities throughout California — the largest car market in the US — prohibit the heaviest SUVs on many of their residential roads. The problem is, they don't seem to know they've done it.




Signs clearly prohibit vehicles over 6,000 pounds, which not only rules out a lot of the larger trucks, but every big SUV and pickup as well.

I wonder if Ken Livingstone will read this. The article makes interesting reading as do the comments afterwards .As the article says i do not put much store in it as it could very a political hot potato.

Certainly is a political hot potato, I imagine there are a lot of new labour supporters to be lost over this in the UK.

If you read the 2nd comment at the bottom of the article the guys is saying his vehicle is under the weight when unloaded but not if carrying fuel and passengers. A bit picky as he would have to be in it to drive it which would put it over the weight.

How much does a series 2/3 88 weigh?

Nowhere near that probably - 6500pounds...thats a massive massive GINORMOUS vehicle. In kilos works out to be close to 3 tonne - the discos arent even 2 tonne so I'm guessing the old series vehicles..could be not much more or even a little less.

The curb weight of a UK spec 110 is about 1950 kgs AFAIK. A series 88" must be lighter than that!

Rich, IIRC the guy was talking about LA - if you click on the link to the original story, it says where he is talking about, and it lists SUVs that are over that limit.

An 88 weighs about 1500kg I think. :)
