Power steering on 300tdi

I drove a friend of mine's Disco today and I swear his power steering feels a lot lighter than mine. Now I know we run different tires but I didn't think it would make such a big difference. Is there anyway I can check if my power steering is running at optimum or improve it's performance?

what size tyre are you both running on?

I am on 235/70 R16, will ask my mate which tyres he's on. I am just about to change my tyres to 235/85 R16 with a 2" lift.
