Any suggestions for camping in Whitby? We're off there with the tent this weekend so looking for somewhere decent. Also - if anyone has any suggestions for lanes on the way through the moors that would be an added bonus!
Stoupe Cross Farm, behind the Abbey overlooking Hawsker / Saltwick Nab. Good clean basic campsite, clean toilets, 5 mins walk form the top of the 199 steps. Turn up and pitch basis. All in all a good reasonbly priced campsite and ideal location.

There are a couple of nice campsites around Robin Hoods Bay! Turn up and pitch basis too!
The whole area is incredible for fossils by the way, esspecially down on the beach at Ravens scar!
And if your looking for a bit of off road fun, there is Langdale Quest, a pay and play forest drive. Had great time there last year!
Enjoy your trip
Cheers

Not sure if it relates to you but when we tried to pitch at stoupe cross last time they wouldn't allow it because there were 4 lads, no groups was their policy, we used a farm further up on the same road.

bear ness farm halfway down to robin hoods bay has a campsite, right next to the offroad course! I'd stay there, you can play on the course for a bit then too.
I had thier number somewhere :/
Nice campsite too, can get windy because its very open to the sea, but with an excellent view.
My avatar was taken at bear ness farm offroad course.

Tis a good little place for off roading, only been in the when it's been sunny for a while so it was quite dry, I should imagine with all this rain we've had recently it will be a lot more fun (and muddy!).
NY Offroad (http://www.nyoffroad.co.uk/) same one as I posted on ORRP, Rick :)

SWMBO & I have just had a Bank Holiday weekend in Whitby, we weren't under canvas (or even in a BWSOW's)
We stopped in a very nice (but dammned expensive!!) Hotel http://www.dunsleyhall.com/
Superb place, but the food was all that 'A La Carte' rubbish. All fancy, poncy dressed up plates with no real amount or substance.
Couldn't even get any Kippers from Billy Fortunes in Whitby (on Bridge Street??) either, as they weren't starting to sell until after we'd have got home on the Monday morning.
Didn't even get a good run across Fylingdales Moor (A169) either as the Granny from Hell was driving at 40mph in front of us & all the stretches with good visibility had streams of opposing traffic.
Not even Mr Fords super TDCi engine could hustle the Mondeo past in complete safety.
Same story up on the road by 'The Lion' (between Castleton & Hutton-Le-Hole) a wonderful road wasted by 'sunday drivers'
Isn't it great that Yorkshire has most of the best (tarmac) driving roads in England??

Just finished adding 2 albums of Whitby photos to my 'WebShots' pages. They might interest you all posting on this thread.

Richard did you know you have a photograph missing in Land Rovers of the UK on your site?
Rectify it as soon as please :D

Bhod, if you mean 'LRoftheWorld 2' as the missing photo, it's an album that I've already prepared for future filling.

Am I missing the point here?, as all the photos appear on 'Community Preview' for me
ok i'll type slowly :p you do not appear to have a picture of a lightweight anywhere on your community board. Is there a reason for this, do you have something against the Truck, Utility, 1/2 ton, 4x4 ROVER SERIES III? :D

Ahh, sorry I thought you simply meant that a photo wasn't appearing on screen for you.
No that's true, but I haven't taken any with the digital (I'll have some prints in the archives)
There's a 2A Light-Weight on there though, my first Landy.
On the 'matt-green score I'd like a nice 'sorted' 3 L/W, or prefferably a 101FC
