went green laning last night with the local 4x4 club. it was an "organised" run with permits to drive some of the wieght restricted trails on the hills. whaty an experience it is so differant driving on the headlands at 10 and 11pm very enjoyable even found some new tracks now to see if i can find them in the daylight. a great night out was only spoiled by a few things
1. speed especially at night 15-20mph is far too fast.
2. mob rule, a beginer joined the run along with a guy and his family on holiday in there disco, i personally would not have gone through the 2foot water splash or down thee big rocky trail with these people in group but the majority won, visitor quit 1/2 way as was getting late, but beginer ******ed of b4 then because it was 2 technical for him the shame is he probably wont be back.
3. trail manners, i personally dont like having a young wan##r driving 10 feet from rear bumper when navigating obsticles.
4. wan##rs run leader was trying to guide steve in our stuck defender round a bog and instead of using the route i was trying to suggest which from experience, ive used it 3 or 4 times works very well with no landscape or vehicle damage led him straight through the middle getting him stuck again and giving him minor whiplash.
will be writing to the club secretary this week, :smallprin to thank him for arranging the passes and inviting us on the run but to suggest politely that before members are allowed on runs they should be asked to demonstrate basic off roading skills on the quarry site and prove that they are safe as it is the clubs rep at stake. and also to suggest that if they want to attract new members the reason i was there they want me to join that they show responsibility and compensate for beginers and newcomers by planning the route accordingly not just expecting them to keep up. or start extreme runs for those who want them. hopefully attending there challenge event at the end of the month and will use that to gauge whether i realy think this is a club a want to consider joining. :roro:

they also got the man who cooked his suzuki to put cold water straight in the rad and rev it hard to help it cool never heard that advice before last time a saw it done the engine was written of as it cracked the block and ******ed the head. but hey the guy dishing out advice thinks he is a super mechanic so who are we to argue, after all steve only has nearly 20 years of experience and a couple of qualifications behind him and he was horrified.

not sure i think it was because the run was led by a normal member and none of the usual organisers were there, plus there is only 1 club on the island so unless we go to the hassle of forming our own we have no choice.

We have loads of choice round us but haven't been yet. Our landys 1st chance to get muddy in our hands may end up being Hartington at the end of the month.

in situations like that I just sit back and smile tbh

no point trying to reason with heroes, and i wouldn't let anyone mess with my truck unless i trusted them, so the person with the probable cracked block will hopefully learn his lesson and at least learn some basic vehicle maintenance
