Hello out there,

Looking for a little bit of advice, because somebody may be able to save me a LOT of money! I'm currently driving a 96 Discovery around Iceland on holiday, and have had 5 weeks of problem free driving, apart from the odd puncture.

However, I have been recently bugged by my car failing to start up.... it seems to be intermittent, but in the last few days has become more problematic. The engine turns over, but it seems that fuel is simply not getting to the engine block.

I have noticed that I seem to be getting an intermittent lack of pressure from the fuel lift pump priming lever, which suggests to me that I simply have a series of (quite significant) air blocks in my fuel lines. Alternatively, the problem may be much more significant.

Does anyone have any advice or similar experience out there?

PS: Driving in Iceland is the best: I can strongly recommend it (if your car is working!)

Is the problem related to the temperature of the engine?

No..... it seems to be unrelated to any other engine issue. The engine doesn't seem to be rough, hot, cold, or anything. When the engine starts, it is as good as it has ever been. Just occasionally (and with increasing regularity) the engine has been failing to start. I am pretty sure that it is something to do with the fuel lift pump or air in the fuel lines, but wanted to check it on the forums first....

Cheers for the reply though!

Is the fuel shut off valve opening when you try to start the truck?
Just a thought.

Got to say my 300 disco starts and runs a lot better when the fuel tank is full, not sure if this affects the fuel pump performance or whether there is a blocked filter / line or something,
this might be similar to your problem though. I hope it isnt a fuel pump requirement.

Not sure what parts availability is like for LR in iceland but if you need anything Im sure I could help in getting a part over to you..

Thanks for the advice, folks. The problem turned out to be the fuel filter, although quite what it was I still don't know. With a new fuel filter and a thorough bleeding, I have had no further problems. The car is now bobbing somewhere out in the North Atlantic on its way home from Iceland, after a thoroughly entertaining summer!
