Ann McCarthy, a 61-year-old grandmother from Shepperton, Middlesex, UK, is planning an adventurous trip to help raise money for Amigos International’s Kira Farm Project - a 10,000 km expedition in a Land Rover across east Africa and up into Ethiopia.

Over the past 10 years Ann has travelled extensively. Earlier this year when she was in Kampala, she met some of the children at Makindye Pearls and heard about Amigos’ plans for the Farm Project.

Coming from a farming background herself, Ann can see the potential this offers to vulnerable youngsters, and how their lives can be turned around. She is determined to offer help and is appealing to you to sponsor her. Contact her on 01932 562757 or at amigos@annmccarthy.co.uk. Why not ask for a sponsor sheet to take around to family, friends, work colleagues and other contacts?

Ann is funding this challenging adventure herself, so every penny she raises will go to Amigos. To find out more, log on to www.justgiving.com/amigos - a secure site where you can also donate online using a credit/debit card if you wish.

Well Bernie, in fact I ripped the British Taxman (I think).
If I look at the list of donations down the lady's donationsite (http://www.justgiving.com/amigos) there is a collumn called "taxbonus", which is not applicable for donators from abroad.
Don't tell me you British have to pay £ 2.82 tax for every £ 10 you donate?
Tony.

Got it all wrong :smallprin
The text is as follows:

"Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Amigos International will receive your money quickly and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you."

Can you explain me how it works?

Tony.

OK I don't fully understand it Tony, but as I am a UK taxpayer, if I donate to a charity, the taxman refunds a proportion to the charity. This needs an accountant to explain it - Greyback, where are you?! :D

Had this reply from Ann:

Unfortunately at the moment I do not have any photos of the actual Land Rover I am going in. It is a 91 Defender but I know not a lot else at the moment!

I did have a brief ride in this actual one at Easter when it belonged to someone else, but my actual trip then was in a Mitsibushi Pajero. Did quite a few miles then, with same driver & guide I am using this time and we went from Kampala down to Rwanda to see the mountain Gorillas and then to a number of different places in Uganda.

She is off on 5th Sept, and will try and send photos if/when she finds internet cafes in the towns. :)
