I noticed that my '91 Disco has them but they don't work. I suspect that the use of Lucas parts fitted to Solihull standards is the cause... ;)

Mine useed to operate with the windscreen washers. The head light jets no longer work as they got ragged off while offroading. I just bunged up the feed hose with a bolt and jubilee clip and tucked it away. The light jets were c**p anyway!

They come on if you have the windscreen wipers on and you pull the stalk towards you to wash the screen. You should see two sprays coming over the corner of the bonnet (or straight over the roof if they are not aligned correctly.)

They only work every 3 or 6 times that you work the windscreen washers when the headlights are on.

Sounds like my cruise control, and my central locking for that matter :S

I Believe that the Headlamp washers are on a timer so that with the Lights on when you wash the windscreen a spray is directed from the Bumper jets at the Headlamps for a small period of time.

I have them fitted to both My Range Rover and Discovery and they definitely are Rubbish, as Dirt becomes baked on the moment you turn the lights on!!!!!!!!!!!

They also empty the Washer reservoir very quickly!!!!!

There is a small three way valve in the pipe work behind the bumper P/N DCP6656.

This blocks up over time and can cause failure.

How do I operate my headlamp washers? The headlamp washers are operated automatically when you work your front windscreen washers, but ONLY when the following conditions are also met:

your engine is running
the headlamps are ON

And then only every third time that the windscreen washers are used. There is no method to operate them independently

But don't use them if you have a stone-created hole in your headlamp...The main bulb seems capable of wet work, but the side-lide bulb seems to object to working under water...

I thought this ****y thing was emptying my washer reservoir really quickly until I dicsovered, definitely, for a fact that the thing is leaking. Filled it up yesterday and nearly all had disappeared overnight.

As per the Haynes manual the nuts won't undo, i.e. the ones in the wheel arch so am not looking forard to getting in there with a drill and a saw. Why o why did the put the pumps etc behind the wretched tank. Was it to make it nealy impossible to repair the leaky seal? (That I suspect is causing the problem.) Also, when the rear wash was working so badly I eventually found that the one way valve in the pipe behind the tank was the wrong way round! Much keyhole surgery with very long pliers later I got it turned round.

Anyone else had fun with this?

lol the more I read this thread, the more it seems we need to make a sacrifice to some heathen gods and dance scantily clad around a maypole to get these things to work...

Tried mine today by turning on the headlights and on the third press of the windscreen washer they worked.

if there's a gadget/accessory etc installed in your rig, it is advisable to at least activate/use it occassionally. this helps to keep the "thing" working, else it tends to get "lazy" and die-off. for example, the wiper wash if not used occassionaly tends to get blocked with dirt, the motors seize, etc. but all things due to age, when the time has come, it will stop working.

I think I really need to get my working again, so I can turn it sideways (90 degree) so I can entertain myself spreading people on the sidewalk while I am stick in traffic.:D

*sigh* - 5 years ago or so (about the last time we had decent rain) there was a beautiful huge puddle right on the island (middle part) of a pedestrian crossing. I was set to hoon through, making a superspectacular splash to drown the man waiting to get across (he'd 'cheated' by running across halfway when he was supposed to be waiting for the light signal). It was to be a fitting punishment for him doing the wrong thing...but unfortunately he'd dragged his child along with him and I couldnt in good concience drown the brat...

Hi ya.

If your headlamp washers aren't working try your alarm. If the flashers don't flash when you set/unset the alarm then the fuse is blown. The headlamp wash pump is a higher power than the windscreen and has it's own fuse, which it shares with part of the alarm.

Cheers, Dan. :p

It works! it Works! I was at the driver seat turn on the lights the wiper and press on the button, I didn't see water at the corner where the lights are all I can see is mist steaming up.That jets got much higher pressure that the windscreen jets. No wonder it had thicker host running from the tank to the Jets, and the pump it use is almost twice as long as the standard windscreen jet pump. I guess it was design to wash off the mud on the lights since the headlights doesn't have wipers. But it only last for a few seconds:o Damn, it was too powerful to use it on people, I don't want to get sue;)
