yer know the water trap device that is attached to the back on a disco chassis, well would i be wrong in getting shut of it as in my opinion its a crock, the defender hasnt got one and runs fine, so i am thinking the disco should.
looking for advice before i do it , anyone else jibbed it????????????

what water trap? Are you talking about the fuel filter?

I would not run any diesel engine wihtout the fuel filter fitted, this on the defender also traps any water that may occur in the fuel tank, see tap on the bottom of the fuel filter. This water may come from any source, including the garage you bought the diesel from or the fuel tanker.. etc...

 No i didnt mean the fuel filter, sorry if i didnt make my request clear!!
I meant to describe the "fuel sedimenter"that acts as a water trap, which is located on the chassis near the fuel tank, before the fuel filter.
My defender doesnt have one on at all and as fuel filters are cheap and easy to replace, was wondering is there any adverse effects after removal of "fuel sedimenter"as in my opinion they seem to be a waste of time!!!!

I may be Maddo but i aint mad enough to remove the fuel filter :yikes:

I am thinking of unbolting it,cutting the pipes and just sleeving the pipes.
Unsure weather to as i aint that familiar with the disco yet! not long got it.
I do work on LTI tx1's and my defender amongst others and they dont need them!!!.
Have seen things like the sedimenter on the likes of old type fx4 taxi's diggers ,dumpers ect, the latter having them because they work in damp or dusty type places????i thought, so i would have thought the defenders would have had them?

Maddo,

I've noticed some Defenders don't have them but mine does. I assumed that as mine is 'Rest of the World' (RoW) specification it had one because it was destined for developing countries where fuel was not of the same quality as here in UK. It's a water separator and sedimenter as you say and it can't be doing any harm by leaving it on. I don't know, but is it possible to get condensation build up in a fuel tank? If so, over a period of time the separator will come in handy.

The fuel filter on my defender is also a water seperator, as it has the tap on the bottom.. Shouldn't need to drain it too often, but do it a couple of times a year, and there is always a little of water in there.
